An Overview of Luxor
Games which feature the legends of ancient Egypt are one of, if not the most popular of slot themes. Luxor is one of the more recent additions to the dozens of different titles which belong to this genre. Released in 2018, PariPlay have produced a worthy addition to this series of pharaonic fables. This one seems to focus more on tales of Tutankhamun. The design has a more modernistic feel than many of its more classic rivals, and will thrill players who are looking for something a bit different from the usual pharaonic fare.
The Luxor Game Play Experience
This is a five reel, three row 243 ways to win game. The reels run smoothly on a relatively non-descript background featuring a dark desert sky with a few stars crossing overhead. An unobtrusive soundtrack warbles in the background to add additional atmosphere to your spins.
Reel symbols include a gold ring, the Egyptian God of the afterlife Anubis and a variety of other ancient symbols and characters. There are also a number of unnecessary high values playing card symbols which I fear are not particularly consistent with life in the time of the Pharaohs.
The Wild symbol is a Gold Scarab. This can appear on any of the three central reels. This can substitute for any of the other symbols. It can also expand the reels to cover up to six extra positions. This feature can expand the numbers of ways to win to a maximum of 1,944.
There is no Scatter symbol in the main game. Apart from the Wild triggered re-spins, additional free spins can only be awarded during the Pharaoh’s Tomb bonus game (see below). The Return to Player rate (RTP) for this game is over 95.9%.
Bonus Features of Luxor
Each time you land a Golden Scarab Wild on your reels, you are awarded one extra free re-spin. Each time you gain another Wild during a re-spin, the reels expand further and you win a further re-spin. All reel expansions remain in place until you are out of re-spins. When you get a Wild on more than one reel, both (or all three) reels expand, but you still only get one extra spin.
There is also a Pharaoh’s Tomb bonus game. This is triggered when you get three Tutankhamun Masks on your central reels. You then enter Tutankhamun’s Tomb, where you get to choose from nineteen Golden Urns. Players continue to pick Urns until three symbols match. Possible prizes include up to ten free spins with a number of different reel expansions, or a variety of extra cash prizes. These can vary from 100 x to up to 2,000 x your original stake.
There sometimes seem to already be more than enough ancient Egyptian themed games to satisfy even the most pyramid obsessed player. But Luxor is a worthy addition to the extensive pharaonic genre. The unique bonus features here are excellent and make this title different enough to make it well worth a second look.
